The Board
Nicci is a landscape designer with PMG Landscape Architects. She also volunteers as intern representative with the BC Society of Landscape Architects. Working many years in theatre production, Nicci is passionate about live performance and how it relates to the great outdoors. When not ‘Stage Directing’ for Community Studio, Nicci can be found exploring east Vancouver parks with her dog Dexter.

Heidi is a landscape architect with Lees + Associates in Vancouver. She earned her BA at Wellesley College in Massachusetts and then her Masters in Landscape Architecture from the University of British Columbia. Heidi especially enjoys public consultation and trail network design. Heidi is known as ‘The Cleaner’ for Community Studio, taking care of business.

Megan is currently an intern landscape architect/environmental planner with Lees + Associates. She is also a Research Assistant for the Sustainable Sites Initiative developing guidelines and performance benchmarks for sustainable land design, construction and maintenance practices (http://www.sustainablesites.org). She earned a Masters in Landscape Architecture from UBC and is pursuing designation as a Registered Professional Biologist. Megan is passionate about
community-led design, water in all its forms and functions, and being out in the mountains of B.C.
Sara is a research scientist with the Collaborative for Advanced Landscape Planning at UBC, where she and the CALP team develop visual tools and processes for landscape planning with a focus on community planning practices for climate change adaptation and mitigation. She earned her BA in environmental geography at Simon Fraser University and her MLA at UBC. She is fond of local plants, particularly those associated with Garry Oak ecosystems.

Lisa is an intern landscape architect with the City of North Vancouver’s Parks and Environment Dept. She studied coastal geology and environmental studies at the University of California Santa Cruz before moving to Vancouver to earn her Masters in Landscape Architecture at UBC. Her professional interests are stormwater and coastal management. Lisa finds herself quite funny most days and clocks in for whatever is needed.
Ellen Pond works at the Pembina Institute as a senior technical and policy advisor, where she develops leading edge climate change and sustainable energy solutions in collaboration with local governments. A member of the BCSLA, she has an MLA from UBC and is a ticketed carpenter.

Jamie is a Park Planner at Metro Vancouver where she oversees regional park development. She is a Registered Professional Biologist and a Registered Landscape Architect. Her interests focus on ecological design, nature in the urban environment, and community building.
Travis completed his Bachelor in Urban Planning at the University of Waterloo. He believes in the value of perspective gained through diverse life experiences, and as a result has since studied in both China, the Netherlands and recently completed the Masters of Landscape Architecture at UBC. Now working at van der Zalm + Associates, Travis’ interests range from city master planning to green infrastructure, hospitable cycling networks, children’s playspace design and industrial design.
Lukas is a third year student in the MLA program at UBC. His undergraduate and employment background is in health sciences, holding a BSc from McGill in Anatomy and Cell Biology. He especially enjoys evaluating and planning environments at the fringes of urban development. Lukas has participated in several design-build projects, and is always eager to learn new ways to navigate the design process.
Shannon Kavanaugh – Web Master
Shannon graduated from the Environmental Studies program at the University of Waterloo where she specialized in landscape ecology and habitat restoration. She then went on to to complete her MLA at UBC. Shannon has a strong interest in children’s playscapes, urban agriculture and ecological restoration. She is currently living in Ontario and working as an Environmental Designer.
Dave Hohenschau
Dave holds a Masters degree in Landscape Architecture, a BSc in Environmental Design, and has previously worked for Ecoplan, Smart Growth BC and the Design Centre for Sustainability at the University of British Columbia. Simply, Dave is ‘The Godfather’ of Community studio.
